The Fernery is situated on the edge of the Sanddrift River, overlooking the Indian Ocean. We would like to inform our guests that the road to the lodge covers a 6km stretch of farming and forestry area and although scenic and beautiful, is moderately bumpy. However, is it perfectly safe and does not require a 4x4 vehicle (easily accessible by low-carriage vehicles). It has recently been re-gravalled and rolled and maintenance is ongoing to ensure a smoother trip for visitors. Once you arrive at your accommodation, parking is safe and free of charge.

We have a 24-hour reception/check-in service but due to our remote locality and the 6km gravel road, it is preferrable that you arrive at the Fernery by late afternoon/before dark.

IMPORTANT!! - After leaving the N2, please follow our signage and turn right at the first T-Junction as this is the best route to The Fernery Lodge and Chalets.

(a) When travelling west on the N2 from Port Elizabeth & Jeffreys Bay, continue for 4km after passing Tsitsikamma Falls Adventures and crossing the Kruis River Bridge, and turn left onto the BLUE LILIES BUSH / NOMPUMELELO road.

(b) When travelling east on the N2 from George & Plettenberg Bay, continue for 4km after crossing the Storms River Bridge and turn right onto the BLUE LILIES BUSH / NOMPUMELELO road.

Continue south on the Blueliliesbush road for 2km, passing Nompumelelo Village on the right, to a T-junction. Turn right at the T-junction & then left after 50 metres & then right again after a further 50 meters; as per The Fernery signs. From here it is 6km on a well sign-posted gravel road to The Fernery Lodge & Chalets.

Please note: This road is an MTO forestry road and we are dependent on their maintenance teams for its upkeep. Please drive carefully.

A short distance after entering the Estate gates the road becomes paved. The first turn off to the left is to the sheds and buildings that house Forest Ferns Exports - a working foliage export company. Do not turn here but continue to follow the road which will take you down to Reception. This is situated on the way down to the Lodge and close to the swimming pool.

Welcome to the magical, mystical Fernery!
